Bright Horizons embraces ‘Breaking The Plastic Habit’ campaign on Canary Wharf

Date: 27 Nov 2018

Bright Horizons nurseries throughout Canary Wharf have been inspired to follow a campaign helping to eliminate the use of single-plastic in the area.

All five nurseries specifically on the Wharf have embraced Canary Wharf Group’s #BreakingThePlasticHabit campaign by taking delivery of more than 500 reusable water bottles.

As such, staff at Bright Horizons Bank Street Day Nursery and Preschool, Canada Square Day Nursery and Preschool, Columbus Courtyard Day Nursery and Preschool, Heron Quays Day Nursery and Preschool and Westferry Circus Day Nursery and Preschool will no longer provide parents and visitors with single-use plastic bottles. Water dispensers will also soon be installed at each of the nurseries for refilling.

Steve Greig, Co-Managing Director at Canary Wharf Management, said: “We are delighted that Bright Horizons nurseries have seen Canary Wharf Group’s ‘Breaking The Plastic Habit’ programme as inspiration to remove single-use plastic bottles from their five nurseries on the Estate, as well as providing reusable water bottles to parents and staff. It is fantastic to see action being taken by individual businesses, and in particular that Bright Horizons are educating future generations on the topic of single-use plastic and the impact it can have on the environment.”

The reusable bottles will be available to all parents and staff for a suggested donation of £5 which will go towards the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.

Denise Priest, Bright Horizons’ Director of Employer and Strategic Partnerships, International, said: “We were inspired to follow the lead of the Canary Wharf Group in helping eliminate the use of single-use plastic. We are confident this campaign will have a lasting impact on all those that live and work on Canary Wharf. We hope that by leading by example, the children in our care will become more aware of this environmental issue.”

Cold water filtered water dispensers are already located around Canary Wharf at Canada Place, Cabot Place, Jubilee Place, Churchill Place and Crossrail Place.
