Bright Horizons Guildford Day Nursery and Preschool receives Green Flag Award

Bright Horizons Guildford Day Nursery and Preschool have recently received a Green Flag Award with a distinction recognising their commitment to environmental efforts.

The award is a result of the ongoing involvement of the nursery in the Eco-Schools Programme. This initiative is designed with seven steps that nurseries and schools follow to help empower young people to make changes to protect the environment and understand the impact of climate change. Those involved in the programme can achieve the Green Flag Award as recognition and acknowledgement of the ecological achievements made by young people.

Becka, the Nursery Manager at Guildford Day Nursery and Preschool said: “We feel really honoured to have achieved the Green Flag Award. The children are really enjoying taking part in the Eco-Schools Programme and have learnt so much about the environment. We want to encourage the children at our setting to understand the importance of looking after our planet.”

Bright Horizons Guildford Day Nursery and Preschool is a Workplace Nursery at the University of Surrey. It provides employees and students from the university access to high-quality, affordable childcare that complements their working patterns. The nursery has been working hard to achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag status. From creating new planters out of old and broken equipment to introducing a clothes swap where families can recycle and donate clothes for others to take, the eco-initiatives at the nursery are having a real positive impact.

Martin Wiles, Head of Sustainability at the University of Surrey, comments: “Here at the University of Surrey we want to continue to support our local community's sustainable journey. It's great to see Bright Horizons Guildford succeed in the Eco-Schools programme - an initiative that encourages young children to learn about sustainability and take action. I look forward to seeing Bright Horizons Guildford continue their sustainable journey and inspire the next generation!”

Bright Horizons currently has 59 nurseries across England and Scotland that have joined the Eco-Schools programme. Providing children with the best start in life is at the core of everything the team at Bright Horizons do. For more details on our passion for sustainability within our nurseries please visit here.
