Mother and Daughter from Cambridge Donate Hair to Little Princess Trust

Shannon, a Nursery Nurse at Bright Horizons Wolfson Court Day Nursery and Preschool in Cambridge and her 6-year-old daughter Kairi have raised just under £1000 for two charities.

Shannon recently donated 12 inches of her hair and Kairi donated 10 inches to the Little Princess Trust charity; they provide real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment. Their donations will be used towards creating wigs for these children and young people.Mother and Daughter from Cambridge Donate Hair to Little Princess Trust

Shannon and Kairi also organised a small tombola at Wolfson Court Day Nursery for the children and parents to get involved, where they raised money for the Little Princess Trust and the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.

The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children is a registered charity focused on improving the lives of vulnerable children and families experiencing crisis and disadvantage. Its Bright Spaces are enriching play environments for children impacted by domestic violence, abuse, homelessness, parental imprisonment, and ill health, and are designed to help children heal from trauma through play.

Shannon, mother of Kairi said: “I felt really inspired by my young daughter whose idea it was to do something good for children who are facing difficult situations. After watching a programme on tv where she noticed a young girl who didn't have hair due to cancer treatment, she was adamant that she wanted to do something to help young children dealing with the illness.

“We both feel really proud we’ve been able to donate our hair to the Little Princess Trust and raise money for the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, so they are able to provide Bright Spaces for children helping them to recover from trauma through play.”
