Children at Bright Horizons Elsie Inglis Early Learning and Childcare in Edinburgh have recently enjoyed studying conkers as autumn season begins.
Staff provided the children with a large selection of conkers that they were then encouraged to observe and describe, using a variety of adjectives to improve their literacy skills.
“We also had one child extremely suspicious that the one conker with holes in had been eaten by a squirrel,” said Deputy Nursery Manager Kate Hubbert. “The staff have begun a mind map planning various experiences that will help support the children’s understanding of autumn and have ensured that they can link a variety of curricular areas into each.”
