Children at Bright Horizons Hinchley Wood Day Nursery and Preschool in Esher, Surrey have organised their own bake off event to raise money for the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.
On each Tuesday over the next month, three children will produce their homemade creations for parents to taste and mark down which treat was their favourite. The first week featured a blueberry cake, a chocolate glitter frozen snowman cake and a chocolate butterfly.
“The children each get a framed photo of themselves with their creation and the winner each week will receive a children’s story cook book, which will be given to them at the end of the month,” said Nursery Manager Julie Court. “Whilst parents were tasting, the children were explaining what each of their creations was by using their communications skills.”
Set up in 2005, the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children’s sole purpose is to help children and families in crisis. They achieve this by working with local community groups, shelters and with Bright Horizons clients to create Bright Spaces®, which are indoor and outdoor play spaces located in homeless shelters, domestic violence refuges and refugee centres.
The spaces are created in order to provide children and families in need with a special place to play, have fun and most of all feel safe.
