A beautiful, welcoming nursery in Hedge End

Yellow Dot Hedge End Day Nursery and Preschool is a spacious yet homely nursery, set in a Grade II listed farmhouse. Every room and feature has been designed to support your child’s development from the age of 3 months to 5 years.

We have a strong focus on children’s wellbeing, which we believe to be the basis to developing lifelong learners. In the Preschool room especially, we like children to have great ownership over their learning, and often carry out votes to encourage confidence and ensure their thoughts are heard. Our rooms are thoughtfully laid out with a mixture of imaginative play equipment, creative areas and more to engage children.

Hedge End nursery’s outside space is no different, with an extensive rear garden that boasts an enclosed ‘secret garden’ area with lots of wild play opportunities. This charming wooded area lends itself to bug hunts, den building and natural exploration.

Our unique Healthy Hearts and Minds activities provide inspirational and engaging learning experiences, and an enriching Ready for School programme gives every child the opportunity to gain the knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond. Our setting is language-rich, and we participate in the ECAT (Every Child a Talker) programme to bring the best out of every child.

We are located 15 minutes’ walk away from Hedge End train station, close to Hedge End Retail Park but still in a residential area. We have an onsite car park and a covered buggy area, and our all-inclusive fees include nappies, milk, food and sudocreme; making your mornings easier.

We would love to meet you and your little one, so book a visit today and we will show you all our nursery has to offer during your own personal tour.

Meet the Team

Clare Danks Hedge End Nursery Manager

Clare Danks

I have almost twenty years childcare experience and am delighted to now be leading and inspiring a team to deliver outstanding practice. This includes working for ten years as a Preschool Development Officer for Preschool Learning Alliance and Prospects on behalf of Southampton City Council. This role helped me with coaching and inspiring teams across the city to reach their full potential. I left this role after becoming a mum… twice! I have a five-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter, I joined the team at Yellow Dot Hedge End as Manager in May 2019 and am so proud to be leading such a positive, vibrant and nurturing bunch!

I am driven to provide a fun, safe and stimulating environment for all children who attend our setting and working closely with the team to ensure the children we care for have fun real life experiences and learn through high quality play experiences every day.

Hedge End Day Nursery and Preschool Deputy Manager

Lynne Carrigan

After twenty years of working in accountancy and payroll capacity, I was looking for a new direction in my career. I began volunteering in my daughter’s classrooms; I was very inspired, although I felt I would like to work with infant and preschool children.  I worked for a few years in a variety of school roles whilst staying at university for a degree in Early Years, which I achieved along with Early Years Teacher status. Then in 2008, I opened my own Beach and Forest school that specialised in providing care for children 0 – 12 years old.  I strongly believe in the value of outdoor learning for children. I joined Yellow Dot in 2014, first working in our Otterbourne nursery and then joining the Hedge End team in 2018. We are a highly qualified and motivated team who strive to create a nurturing, supportive and stimulating learning environment.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
