Asquith Woodlands Pre-School

Why Children Love Us

A place to grow

Woodlands children's pre-school provides care for children aged 2 to 4 and is rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. Set in a converted school in beautiful woods next to Southborough Common and behind St Peter’s Church, there is plenty of space to park, making drop-offs and collections easy for parents.

Younger children, between 3 months and 2 years, are now catered for by our Woodlands day nursery, situated in a newly refurbished, bespoke building in Springfield Road. More information can be found here.

The children's nursery is light and airy with large windows and high ceilings. Our rooms are sparkling from our recent refurbishment which, together with all the new furniture and resources, has had a huge impact on all of our children’s learning and development.

We feed into many local schools such as Southborough, Speldhurst, Langton Green, Bidborough, St Matthews and St Johns and work closely with all of them to help ease transitions between nursery and ‘big school’.

At Woodlands, our Southborough children's day nursery, we use a 'key person' approach to support parents and children from the very start. Your child’s key person will follow your child’s individual routine and build their day around your preferences and wishes.

We offer eight-week 'settling in' sessions before your child starts, to enable you and your child to build relationships with your key person and provide an insight into the day-to-day running of the nursery. We tailor the sessions to each family, based on discussions and observations.

We also have a fully qualified Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who works here at Woodlands to help and support children and families with additional needs.

Our amazing outside area has just been completely refitted to support children in all areas of their learning and development. We have a beautiful tipi for cosy story times and a wavy and bumpy path to help children develop an awareness that not all surfaces are flat.

Children at our Southborough pre-school can take part in activities including planting, digging, sand and water play in our Amazing adventure garden, as well as hunting for mini-beasts: all of which help with sensory development. The amazing nature observatory overlooking the woods makes our garden a very special place for children to learn, develop and discover the natural world.

We will be delighted to welcome you to Woodlands pre-school in Southborough. Our friendly, experienced and highly qualified staff are on hand to conduct a personal nursery tour at a time to suit you.

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
