Having worked in Children’s Social Services for many years I decided that I wanted to do something more child centered. I have always had a passion for reading and teaching children to read. I come from a large family, the eldest of 7 children and taught my siblings and my daughter to read and wanted to be involved in a profession where I could have an impact on children’s literacy.
I had considered being a reading mentor but couldn’t fit this around my current work commitments so decided to enter nursery. I started as a lunch cover and realised quickly that I had finally found where I belonged. I decided to retrain as a nursery practitioner and after working at a couple of nurseries, joined my first Bright Horizons nursery in September 2014 and was drawn in by the Growing Readers programme which embodied everything I loved about inspiring children to develop their love of reading and gave me the tools to make the learning experience truly fantastic. Even as the manager I still take the time to have story times with the children when I can.
I have been a Deputy Manager at Looking Glass since January 2019, I have worked at West Dulwich since 2017 starting at Room manager, and quickly worked my way third in charge and then Deputy Manager. I have been in childcare since 2008. After I qualified with a BTEC National Diploma in Early Years. I am passionate in providing outstanding and exceptional care and education to all our children and families at West Dulwich. I am always eager to develop my knowledge and practices within the child care sector, I am currently studying at London Metropolitan University for my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Studies.
The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
