Welcome to Sonning Lane Day Nursery and Preschool, a newly refurbished setting in Reading that sets a new standard for early years education and childcare. Our nursery is designed to provide a warm, inspiring environment where children aged 3 months to 5 years can thrive. From bright, spacious rooms to unique specialist facilities, every detail has been carefully considered to support your child’s development and wellbeing.
Our nursery is housed in a beautifully redeveloped home full of character, with airy rooms that create a calm and welcoming atmosphere. Inside, children enjoy dedicated spaces tailored to their age and stage, including a sensory room, a children’s kitchen for hands-on learning, and a dining area where they can share nutritious meals prepared by our onsite chef. Each classroom is thoughtfully designed to encourage creativity, independence, and confidence.
One of the most exciting features of our nursery is our private heated indoor swimming pool—the only one of its kind in the area. Here, children take part in small-group swimming lessons led by two qualified instructors, helping them build water confidence and essential life skills in a safe, nurturing environment. Alongside swimming, our sports hall offers opportunities for ball games and obstacle courses, supported by a dedicated sports coach.
Outdoors, children have access to over one acre of adventure-filled play space, divided into age-appropriate zones. From ball games and climbing frames to a forest area for nature hunts and planting zones for learning about growth, there is always something new to discover. Our treehouse climbing frame adds an extra layer of excitement.
For our youngest children, we provide calm, spacious rooms with direct access to their own garden, following home routines to ensure a smooth transition into nursery life. Toddlers enjoy open-ended play and their own outdoor space, while preschoolers benefit from stimulating activities led by an Early Years Teacher, preparing them for school with confidence. Our Ready for School programme focuses on building strong foundations in reading, writing, and maths, while Boogie Mites music sessions bring learning to life through rhythm and song.
At Sonning Lane, we believe every child deserves the best start in life. That’s why we follow our Nurture Approach, developed by Early Years specialists to support holistic development and wellbeing. This personalised approach builds on the EYFS framework and ensures your child feels happy, confident, and ready for each new stage. Parents stay connected through the Bright Horizons Family app, which shares updates and milestones throughout the day.
Our all-inclusive care covers everything from meals and snacks to nappies, wipes, formula, and creams, giving you complete peace of mind. We also offer onsite parking and a buggy park for convenience. Our team includes staff trained in Makaton and sign language, and our nursery manager holds a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Award (SENDCO qualified). For older children, we run a holiday club up to age 12, and our extended opening hours from 7:30am to 6:30pm make life easier for busy families. Located in Reading with excellent transport links to the A329, M4, and A4, we’re perfectly placed for local parents.

Our calculator enables you to estimate your basic fees BEFORE childcare funding is applied. We’ve taken this approach as funding is dependent on your own very individual situation, how old your child is, where you live, whether you’re working, or you get discounts from your workplace.
Our comprehensive funding guides provide guidance on what funding you’re likely to be eligible for, we can send this to you after you’ve estimated your fees.
When you visit us, we can also help you understand your options and work out what your net fees will be after any childcare funding is taken into account.
Oops! We appear to be having a few technical challenges! Our team is working hard to get our fee calculator back up and running soon as soon as possible. Thanks for bearing with us.
