Meet the Team

Phoenix management team

Sarah Jane Copperthwaite

I have worked for Bright Horizons for 6 years and have worked within the childcare industry for over 23 years. I am a mummy of 2 children and I hold a NNEB qualification.

Working with children brings a joy to my life, and I love nothing more than seeing children reach their full potential in a fun, stimulating yet safe environment. Keeping Everyone Safe is of paramount importance to myself as a nursery manager and I feel it is my duty of care to the parents that are choosing our setting for their loved ones.

Gemma Shuttleworth

I have worked in the childcare industry for 10 years and have been working for Bright Horizons since August 2016. I hold a level 5 qualification.

Since working in childcare I have made many special memories and the children make me smile everyday which is why I love my career. I aim to deliver a high standard of care by supporting a team of practitioners to provide this here at Phoenix.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
