An outstanding Montessori nursery in Barnet

Norfolk Lodge Montessori Day Nursery provides Outstanding childcare for children aged between 6 months and 5 years old from our bespoke setting in Barnet, Hertfordshire. We use the teaching methods developed by Maria Montessori and our aim is to provide purposeful and stimulating activities which enhance each child's growth and development.

Our large, bright classroom offers plenty of space for children to learn and explore. The Montessori equipment is thoughtfully arranged with everything at a low level for all ages to access independently.

Our enriching Ready for School programme focuses on early academic skills with Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians, giving every child the opportunity to gain the knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond. Engaging learning experiences continue through our educational partnerships, including the innovative and well-established Boogie Mites programme.

Set in 2 acres of land, Norfolk Lodge has a vast outdoor area for children to play, have fun, explore and learn, with the freedom to access a range of age appropriate resources. We have a covered outside play area for the younger children and a fully fenced woodland area perfect for children to expand their curiosity. There are also areas offering lots of physical fun, with climbing frames and a soft surfaced court with bikes and scooters for the children to enjoy.

Our Norfolk Lodge day nursery in Barnet is open from 8.00am until 6.00pm each day, although classes start at 8.45am or 9.00am and end at 3.45pm or 4.00pm. During the long summer holidays, educational, arts and sporting activities are available for 5 weeks. We also offer a before school and after school service.

Our commitment to providing fantastic childcare has further been recognised by Ofsted, who has rated Norfolk Lodge as 'Outstanding' in their latest inspection.

We would love to meet you and your little one, so book a visit today and we will show you all our nursery has to offer during your own personal tour.

Mrs Suzanne Clarke

Both my children had been to a Montessori Nursery and I decided to embark on my Montessori training at Montessori, St Nicholas in Knightsbridge. I started at Norfolk Lodge on 1 st April 1996, 1 term after the nursery had opened and I have been here ever since. I became the Head Directress in June 2016. This was just before being acquired by Bright Horizons. I am very proud to have achieved an Outstanding Ofsted rating in January 2018. We have a wonderful setting and I am honoured to be part of a long serving, dedicated team of practitioners that provide our children with excellent care and education.

Deborah Lawson

Before becoming a Montessori teacher I had originally studied art and design at college and university. After a career change I decided to follow my heart and become a teacher. I trained at Montessori St Nicholas in Knightsbridge and gained my qualification. I’ve worked in various Montessori settings within London and Hertfordshire. I started at Norfolk Lodge on 6th September 1996 and I have been here ever since. I became the deputy head in June 2016 alongside my role as a room senior too. I feel we have an amazing setting and I feel privileged to be part of a dedicated team. We are just one big happy family who provide children with excellent care and education, but most of all love and understanding.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
