An outstanding and welcoming nursery in Whetstone

Whetstone Day Nursery and Preschool (formerly Magic) is a well-resourced and purpose-built nursery carefully designed to support your child's education and development, from 3 months to 5 years.

Our nursery offers children a warm, cosy environment where each age-appropriate room has play and learning resources to engage the natural curiosity of your child. We have a glass wall that separates our two-to-three year old room from our preschooler room. This helps to prepare the children for smooth transitions into preschool. There is a lot of natural light in both our under twos rooms, and our baby room has a relaxing, homely feel.

The atmosphere is one of fun and active play and the staff use the children's interests to plan stimulating activities, challenging their growing independence, confidence and understanding. Children especially love our roof top terrace garden where they can enjoy the sand and water trays.

The team at Whetstone nursery supports all aspects of learning and development prioritised by the EYFS and we follow our own unique Growing Enhancements programme for preschoolers. This includes Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians, alongside Growing Artists, Growing Scientists and Creative Cooks. Our enriching activities are designed to encourage your child's natural curiosity to learn and inspire their interest in food and art, helping to lay the foundations for future academic and creative achievements and giving the perfect prelude to school.

The nursery's excellent reputation is the result of the close working relationships with families and the fantastic team spirit of our dedicated, long-standing team. Our experienced and qualified staff speak a variety of 11 languages and always have the children as their priority. Ofsted have recognised our commitment to excellent childcare and education by giving us a rating of 'Outstanding' in their latest inspection.

Conveniently positioned between Totteridge and Whetstone tube station and Oakleigh Park rail station, Whetstone Day Nursery and Preschool has a fingerprint biometric access system, which adds to the security and peace of mind of parents.

Our team would love to meet you and your little one, so book a visit today and we will show you everything our nursery has to offer during your own personal tour.

Meet the Team

Bright Horizons Whetstone Day Nursery and Preschool Manager

Tracy Fleming

I have been in the childcare industry for over 20 years, working my way up from student to nursery assistant, to room leader, deputy and now a nursery manager. I have worked in Australia for many years before returning to the UK in 2015 where I joined the Magic Daycare Nursery Group working alongside my colleagues to open our Muswell Hill nursery, I then joined the Whetstone team in 2016 and along with dedicated staff team we worked together to maintain our Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating for the 2nd time. We have since joined the Bright Horizons family and our knowledge and development continues to grow as we are introduced to new things such as our ‘Growing Programmes’ and Boogie Mites.  I am also the nursery SENCO and work alongside the local authority to support those little ones who may need additional support in their development.

Bright Horizons Whetstone Day Nursery and Preschool Deputy Manager

Nicole Ivers

From a very young age, childcare has always been my passion. I have been in childcare for over 14 years and I started my career as student helper before I became a nursery assistant at age 18. I then started my career as level 3 qualified nursery practitioner in a nursery now known as Bright Horizons Southgate. There, I spent 1 year as a nursery nurse, 5 years as a room leader and 2 years as the third in charge which has led me to my current deputy manager role in the beautiful Bright Horizons Whetstone nursery. I truly believe in the Bright Horizons mission in motion and take pride in watching the children grow and develop to their full potential during their time at Bright Horizons.

I have been in working in the childcare sector since 2012 where I studied my level 2 in childcare. At the time I was volunteering in a school nursery which is where my passion for childcare grew. I then went on to do my level 3 as an apprentice which led me on to work at an after school club where I worked with children aged 4-11.
I started with a company now known as bright horizons Southgate in 2015 where I spent 3 years as nursery nurse and worked my way up to room leader in 2018.
I transferred here to whetstone in March 2021 as a third in charge and love my new role here.
I really enjoy watching each child grow and develop during their time at bright horizons.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
