Columbus Courtyard Day Nursery and Preschool

Why Children Love Us

A place to grow

Columbus Courtyard provides care and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years and is located on the South Colonnade end of Canary Wharf, ideal for commuting parents.

The nursery features bright, spacious rooms with floor to ceiling windows maximising natural light. Each room is tailored to the individual age groups of our children. Bright Horizons nurseries have a wide range of play and learning activities designed to encourage happy, confident children who are ready to enjoy a lifelong journey of learning, including our Growing Enhancements, a unique set of enhancements which focus on reading, writing, science, maths, physical activity and art.

In addition to our Growing Enhancements, Columbus Courtyard children enjoy Cookery Club, visits from our sports coach and Bilingual Beats sessions.

Columbus Courtyard children are often seen out and about on the Wharf; we love to make the most of our fantastic location and explore local attractions like the Docklands Museum, roof top garden, watching the clipper boats on the riverside, and playing in the secured courtyard.

Meet the Team

Cheyenne Edwards

My childcare journey began at the age of 16 when I completed my first childcare qualification. I soon gained employment in my local nursery as bank staff to support over the summer. I really enjoyed my time working in a nursery and found a permanent position which was located in Enfield, where I was hired as nursery nurse. I worked at the setting for seven years keen to gain as much knowledge by attending training which was available for me.

When a position was advertised for an early years practitioner within a brand new children’s centre I jumped at the new challenge. I was successfully employed at the centre, where I learnt so much and had the opportunity to work with children who had additional needs. I was trained to devise individual learning plans to ensure all children could take part in the wonderful activities on offer. I decided to further my qualifications and went on to study a level 3 in children, learning and development; during this time I also gave birth to my first child.

On completion of my level 3 I knew I was ready for a role which presented more responsibilities and I was lucky enough to be hired by one of Haringey’s successful children’s centre as an early years key person and family worker. This was my most intense role yet as the children work used the centre had a range of needs therefore I was able to work with a number of professionals which I could learn from. I also gave birth to my second daughter.

The more knowledge I gained the more confident I became and I was offered the role of the deputy manager before shortly being promoted to manager and lead our Ofsted inspection where we were graded ‘Good’.

Eventually I decided I would like to study a degree level course so in 2015 I enrolled at London Metropolitan University to study a Ba (Hons) in Early Childhood. In May 2018 I completed my degree and have been awarded 2:2. My Bright Horizons journey begun in 2018 when I join the wonderful team at Columbus Courtyard.

I have been working with Bright Horizons for over a year. I first started as a practitioner for the previous childcare provider and worked for them for 4 years until they were acquired by Bright Horizons. I was then promoted to Deputy Manager at Columbus Courtyard. My journey in childcare first started in 2010 where I completed my CACHE Level 3 diploma in Childcare and Education. I have had many different jobs roles such as Nursery Practitioner, Nanny and EYFS Coordinator. I really enjoy working with children of all ages. One of my passions is ensuring that the children have a fun, safe environment for them to grow and learn every day. There are so many wonderful things I love about my job but one of my favourite things is working with my team to ensure that the children are getting the best care and are happy.

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
