Meet the Team

Becka Pinnells

I began my career in childcare in 2000. I studied at Godalming College for 3 years and gained by CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education and NVQ Level 3. I have been working for Bright Horizons for the past 10 years starting as a nursery nurse in the baby room and was promoted to baby room manager. I then went on to study and gain my Foundation Degree in Early Years at Guildford College After a couple of years I was promoted to Third in Charge and then to Deputy Manager and became the Nursery Manager of Starfish in Guildford in 2014.

After 10 years at Starfish I was asked to transfer to Active Learning Dorking to broaden my managerial skills and use my knowledge to support a new team and have a new experience in a new nursery.

Since I was of a young age I knew I wanted to work with children and I love being here and enjoy watching the children come in with a beaming smile and watching them learn something new each day.

Lauren Dawes

I'm the Nursery Deputy Manager at Active Learning Dorking, and have worked at the Nursery since 2012 when I joined the team as Third in Charge.
Whilst in the role of Third in Charge I spent time leading each of the rooms, building on my experience with all age groups from Babies and Toddlers, 2-3's to Preschool, I also supported the management team with the running of the Nursery as a whole. I was promoted to Deputy Manager in January 2015, and I enjoy helping to lead our Nursery team and developing practice within the setting.

Before joining Active Learning I worked in a range of different Childcare settings in a variety of roles, I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 2006 with an NVQ Level 3 in Early Years Care and Education alongside a Progression Award. Every day is different at Nursery and I love to watch the children grow, develop and learn in our care.

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
