Mount Vernon Day Nursery & Preschool

Mount Vernon Nursery

Why Children Love Us

A place to grow

Mount Vernon Day Nursery and Preschool offers care and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years. We are proud to have a long standing staff team and management who helped us achieve a Good rating in our latest Ofsted inspection. Some of our team have been here for over 20 years!

We offer a warm, welcoming environment supporting the transition from home to nursery and our secure spacious outdoor areas for children, which includes a mud kitchen, gives the children opportunities to extend their learning, alongside a soft play area for children to partake in physical activities.

Our wide range of extracurricular activities include Baby Yoga, Spanish and French lessons, Piano and Ballet lessons and Woodwork. Our Computer suite, to support children’s ICT skills, includes Click IT computer classes.

Children in the nursery are well prepared to transition to school with the unique Ready for School Programme which includes Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians. To further support this our 3-5 year olds are provided with a uniform of polo shirts and sweat shirts.

We provide excellent nutritionally-balanced menus using fresh ingredients prepared by our own chef.

Supporting and Learning

Growing Mathematicians

1-2-3-4-5! Mathematics is embedded in everything that we do and experience in our day-to-day lives and our Growing Mathematicians programme has been created to help your child understand the purpose and importance of mathematics.

Growing Readers

Growing Readers brings together home and nursery life, providing parents with some of the theory behind developing children’s reading skills, and also providing handy Hints & Tips, recommended reading lists and suggested activities for parents and children to explore together.

Growing Writers

Our Growing Writer’s approach supports the complex magical journey from making a mark, to emergent writing, to confident writer, laying the foundational skills that enable each child to flourish with the confidence and capability to succeed at school.

Meet the Team

Tina Bland

My name is Tina Bland and I have been at Mount Vernon since May 2000 as the manager of the 50 place nursery school. In 2004 I was promoted to manager of the 74 place baby/toddler nursery as well as the 50 place school building. I am NNEB trained and also hold the Foundation Degree in Early Years. I have been working in childcare since 1976 and have worked in residential nurseries, inner city social services day nurseries, as a nanny both in the UK and abroad and also on a kibbutz in the children’s home.

I have a daughter who whilst studying Photographey at college also worked for Bright Horizons as bank staff and through this work and her love of working with children decided to then study for her Early Childhood Studies Degree followed by a Teaching Degree. She currently works in a primary school. My vision is to inspire and motivate the team to learn, grow and develop both the children and themselves, remembering that we are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 10 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
