I opened Church Crookham Day Nursery in September 2012 with a small team of 6 staff and only a handful of children. Now, I manage a full, busy nursery and a team of almost 40! I absolutely love coming to work and I am very passionate about the nursery, the service we provide and the team, but most importantly, the children! I have known I wanted a career caring for children since I was very young. I have many younger cousins and I loved helping my Nan look after them all in the school holidays and that’s where my passion for child care and development started.

My employment with the company started in June 2010. I managed the Wandsworth Nursery in South London for 2 years before transferring here to be closer to home and having the challenge of starting up a brand new nursery.

I have worked in childcare since 2001 when I started as a young apprentice in a small nursery in Basingstoke. I gained my Level 3 qualification a year after then worked my way up through the positions over the years. I completed my Level 4 in Early Years, Care and Development in 2008. All of my professional experience has been with children under 5 in nursery settings. I have been a nursery manager since 2009 and I have managed 3 nurseries. All 3 have been of varying sizes and in different locations.

Abi Culver

I have worked at Church Crookham Day Nursery since we opened in September 2012, along with 5 other staff members and have seen the nursery grow and develop into an amazing place. I started as a Nursery Nurse and soon progressed to Room Manager of the baby room. I spent nearly 2 years in there before I went on to run the toddler unit for a year. I was promoted to Deputy Manager in April 2016 and I am loving gaining experience within a different side of childcare.

I have an NVQ level 3 in Childcare and Education and have done lots of internal training since completing this, including an NVQ level 2 in Team Leadership and Management. I have worked in Early Years since 2008 and still love every second of it! I have worked in 2 Nurseries previous to Church Crookham and have gained a lot of experience which has made me a much stronger practitioner and leader. I have done a lot of babysitting for various families since I was 16 and have always known that this was the right career for me.

In my spare time I love spending time with my nephew and niece, Zak and Nova who live in Wales. I travel to see them as much as I can and enjoy bringing a lot of my professional knowledge to help them to thrive and grow, as well as getting into a lot of mischief!

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
