Bright Horizons Guildford Day Nursery and Preschool

Why Children Love Us

A place to grow

Bright Horizons Guildford is a workplace nursery located in the grounds of Surrey University on Egerton Road, off Richard Meyjes Road. The nursery is exclusive to staff and students at the University of Surrey and has four home bases and a large garden. The garden is split into two sections to allow the older children to explore without distressing the smaller babies, who may be playing in the garden space at the same time. Both sections of the garden include all seven areas of our Growing Programme to encourage the children to continue learning in the fresh air.

Throughout the year, the nursery holds various events to encourage staff, parents and children to socialise. These include events such as our Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Picnic, Christmas Lunch and a visit from Santa. Stay and Play events are held regularly during the year.

Meet the Team

Laura Woods

Laura has worked in a range of settings and has over 9 years’ experience of working with nursery aged children and is trained to level 3 qualification. Laura took a break last year to work for the local authority, here Laura worked with families and children who were in foster care or were soon to be adopted.  Laura has had experience of different Bright Horizons settings within Surrey and has worked at Bright Horizons Guildford for over a year.

“I love my role, it gives me the chance to manage a busy nursery combined with spending time with the children. I love getting to know the families and their children in my care.”

Laura enjoys listening to music and is learning to jive dance.

Leah Dyer

I have worked for Bright Horizons for 6 years, my previous role was also in a client based nursery where I was the third in charge and room manager of the 2-5 years room.  I hold a level 6 qualification which I studied for while working alongside the children. As part of my studies I completed a research project on boy’s play which I found extremely interesting. One of my responsibilities within the nursery is SEND, supporting children with any additional needs for their learning.

In my spare time I like go clay pigeon shooting with my partner and watching the Formula 1.

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
