Active Learning Finchley

Why Children Love Us

A place to grow

Active Learning Finchley in North Finchley London offers childcare and education for children aged 3 months to 5 years. The nursery boasts a large garden in which children can ride bikes, play sports and explore the natural world. We are also very excited about our upcoming refurbishment, which is due to be completed in 2018.

In addition to highly qualified and engaged nursery nurses, children's learning is supported by a specialist in art and performing arts, a preschool teacher and a sports coach.

Focussed lessons using specialist equipment in the children's own environment, allow them to immerse themselves in new experiences and to learn and grow in confidence in areas that may become a lifelong passion. We also offer Spanish, Japanese and ballet lessons and nutritional meals are provided by our on-site chef, using fresh ingredients.

Meet the Team

Poppy Hinton

I have worked in childcare for 26 years as a Nursery Nurse, Deputy Manager, Manager, NVQ Assessor, Care and Education Manager and a Senior Manager. I have been managing Active Learning Finchley for 7 years.

Working with children and their families is the most wonderful experience as I learn something new and amazing every day.

The best part of my role is sharing the moments where children discover something new or really understand a concept they have been exploring, leading their own learning and enjoying their achievements.

Sarah Ashton

I have been working in childcare for 11 years. Throughout this time I have adopted many roles such as Nursery Nurse, Room Leader, Nursery SENCO, Third in Charge and now Deputy Manager.

I have widespread knowledge of working with children with additional needs and I have worked with external agencies devising SEN support and health care plans to meet the individual needs of the children.

I hope to continue my journey into management and to continue to provide exceptional and quality care to ensure all children have the best possible start in life.

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
