Meet the Team

April Marshall, Nursery Manager at Putney Day Nursery and Preschool

April Marshall

Having worked in Children’s Social Services for many years I decided that I wanted to do something more child centred.  I have always had a passion for reading and teaching children to read.  I come from a large family, the eldest of 7 children and taught my siblings and my daughter to read and wanted to be involved in a profession where I could have an impact on children’s literacy.

I had considered being a reading mentor but couldn’t fit this around my current work commitments so decided to enter nursery.  I started as a lunch cover and realised quickly that I had finally found where I belong.  I decided to retrain as a nursery practitioner and after working at a couple of nurseries, joined my first Bright Horizons nursery in September 2014 and was drawn in by the Growing Readers programme which embodied everything I loved about inspiring children to develop their love of reading and gave me the tools to make the learning experience truly fantastic.  This is evident at Putney from the moment you walk through the door and step into our lending library, and even as the manager I still take the time to have story times with the children as much as possible.

I have worked with children for 9 years and hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare. I have worked in  a vast range of childcare settings,  including private and public nurseries, Montessori schools and holiday clubs, but do truly have a passion for the under 5’s, making sure that I can help provide the best start in life. I have worked at Putney Pre School and Day nursery for 4 years since we opened and I have been very fortunate to be a part of its wonderful growth and Journey. Starting off as the Baby room leader I have watched all the children graduate off to school, and welcome many siblings into the nursery!

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
