Meet the Team

Callands Day Nursery and Preschool Manager

Denise Sharkey

I have worked at Callands for nearly 20 years. I started as a student working in various rooms to gain experience and once qualified to NVQ Level 3, I was based in the preschool room as a Nursery Nurse. I quickly became Supervisor for the preschool unit and in 2003 I progressed to Deputy Nursery Manager. In 2012 I became the Nursery Manager for Callands.

We have a great team, and we continue to grow and succeed - this is evident with our latest “Good” OFSTED result. I am passionate about my role within the nursery and my team, the children in our care and their families.

Callands Day Nursery and Preschool Deputy Manager

Charlotte Hampson

I started as a student whilst I completed my CCLD Level 3, I then took a year out of education and became a based member of staff in toddlers and preschool.
I then went to Liverpool Hope University to study Early Childhood and Education alongside working here part time as a bank staff member
After graduating I took a promotion in another nursery as a Toddler Room Leader where I gained many leaderships skills. During this time I continued to learn by qualifying as a Level 3 forest school practitioner.
I am now currently in a new role at Callands as deputy manager and am very excited to learn, extend and stimulate practice and help guide our nursery to outstanding as a team.
In my spare time I enjoy visiting different citys and countries around the world. I also like to improve my fitness by going swimming and to the gym.

Kirsty Ostell

I have worked at Callands Day Nursery and Preschool for 18 years. I started as a student, before becoming a base member of staff in the baby room. I then had the opportunity to work in the toddler room.

I went on maternity leave in 2007 and came back part time, based in preschool room before I was then offered the toddler room leader full time.

After 2 years I then took the opportunity to develop the children's school readiness by becoming preschool room leader.

In my spare time, I like to spend time with my husband and my son Alfie. We go for walks with our dog, Wallace. As a family we enjoy visiting Chester Zoo and we also like to spend time spend time in Blackpool with the family.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
