Why Children Love Us

A place to grow

Stourton First Direct Nursery and Preschool is an Outstanding and exclusive nursery for staff of the bank, situated on the ground floor we are easily accessible for wheelchairs. Our nursery environments are enabling and richly resourced, with an open plan scheme in Unit 1. The Nursery is surrounded by outdoor spaces, a castle area upon the hill and woodland area for the children to visit. Our staff team on the whole, have been with us a lot of years now and are very experienced at what they do, helping us secure an ‘Outstanding’ in our latest Ofsted Inspection.

Meet the Team

Gail Jones

My career began in 1991, and in 2016 I will achieve my 25 year Service Award. In 1994 I moved to the first direct site here at Stourton and became the Nursery Manager shortly after. I am extremely proud and honored to be the Nursery Manager. My passion has always been to work with children. My mantra has always been, that the children deserve the very best Quality, Care and Education that we can give and will always be the case. My team are a pleasure to work with.

Christine Mortimer

I joined kidsunlimited in 1996 working as relief staff before being promoted to room leader and then unit leader in 2003.  I have been the Deputy Manager since 2008 and have never looked back. I am extremely proud of our nursery and what we have achieved and I am very passionate about the quality of teaching and learning we provide for the children in our care

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
