A place to grow

Barford Beehive Nursery and Preschool is open for children aged 3 months to 5 years. We offer a warm, welcoming environment supporting the transition from home to preschool.

We provide babies and toddlers with what they need: a safe world, rich with opportunities to actively explore, with books, songs, and a lot of listening and responding to their vocalisations and words. A child's third year is a time of huge change: the experience is similar to adolescence in that it is transitional. In the same way that adolescence stands between childhood and adulthood, two year-olds are moving from the total dependence of babyhood to the more independent, mobile world of preschoolers. At this age children are exploring their powers to communicate, to move purposely, to assert their independence and individuality, and to control their important bodily functions.

We have 2 teachers specialising in early years foundation. Our highly qualified nursery team helped us secure a Good in our latest Ofsted inspection.

Meet the Team

Barford Day Nursery and Preschool Manager

Rachel Burgess

I have been the nursery manager at Barford Beehive since November 2001. Before I joined the team I was living and working in Oslo, Norway. I did my level 6 Montessori Diploma whilst working in the Montessori Institute in Oslo, where the children ranged from 2 years to 16 years. I have been in childcare for over 26 years.

I am very passionate about providing an enabling environment for all children where they can develop in a safe and secure setting.

The team at Barford can all see the benefits and enjoyment that children get from playing outside. The whole team are extremely committed to ensuring that the company vision of Keeping Everyone Safe is evident within our culture of behavioural safety at Barford Beehive.

Barford Beehive Nursery and Preschool Deputy Manager

Angie Midcalf

I have been working at Barford Beehive since 2009. I joined the team as a bank staff member and soon became a regular member of staff. I have been room leader in the baby room since 2007. I became deputy manager in March 2014.

My passion is the baby room and settling our new children happily and calmly into the nursery environment. I believe it is equally important to settle the parents during their child's transition into nursery, which enables them to continue their busy working lives knowing that their children are safe and happy in the nursery environment.

I work alongside Rachel to support our nursery family of staff, parents and children. We provide a warm welcome to all of our families and a calm, caring and enabling environment for all of our children.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
