A place to grow

Our lovely, newly refurbished day nursery is set in rural surroundings in the south of Bristol and has a warm feeling as soon as you walk in. Situated under the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, the nursery overlooks the beautiful surroundings of the Ashton Court Estate.

We have a very established team who have worked together for many years. Our combined service to the nursery covers a staggering 80 years between us, of which we are extremely proud.

The nursery is convenient for commuters and is situated on one of the main commuter routes into the city centre - the A369, within the suburb of Bower Ashton.  There is a local Park and Ride just 5 minutes from the nursery and the city centre itself is a short drive away. 

Our bright and spacious baby, toddler and preschool rooms are all located on one level with great accessibility to our stunning outdoor spaces.  The baby room also includes a separate sleep area. All children have access to our beautiful garden areas throughout the day, with a door from each room leading into the garden to allow for free-flow play. Our outdoor spaces includes a Growing Gardeners area for planting and a mud kitchen.

We have an onsite chef who cooks all meals freshly each day, from our four weekly rotational menus which are accredited by Action for Children. 



Drop off and collection is also made simple with an onsite car park, both a benefit from a security and convenience perspective, especially on those rainy days!

You will always be greeted by a friendly face in the office, located by the entrance, as well as having a coded door system in place for optimal security.

The Bright Horizons family pride ourselves in providing safe, exciting and enjoyable nurseries where children thrive as they learn. Our nursery is a wonderful day care environment that is innovative, stimulating and inspiring for children and staff alike.

Our Preschool children have the opportunity to take part in Forest School sessions at Ashton Court which are carried out by our in house qualified Forest School Leader.

Bristol Day Nursery and Preschool Manager

Helen Giermann

I have been working in childcare for over 18 years after qualifying with an NNEB in Childcare and Education. Bright Horizons Bristol was my final placement while studying and. as a new nursery, they were looking for staff to join the team.

I started as bank staff while finishing my course and soon became a permanent member of the team. I then worked my way up from Nursery Nurse to Room Leader; then to Deputy Manager and from Deputy to Nursery Manager. I have always wanted to work in childcare and as part of a motivated team. This year I was promoted to Senior Nursery Manager which has enabled me to step out of my own nursery and support other local Bright Horizons Nurseries in a variety of capacities. I celebrated my 18th year of service with Bright Horizons Bristol in May 2018 and I am proud to be part of a great nursery.

Chloe Ridley

My name is Chloe Ridley I have a BTEC National Diploma in Early Years and I have 10 years’ experience working within Early Years settings. I am passionate about delivering quality childcare and watching children flourish whilst having the best learning experiences. I live just outside of Bath with my partner and little boy Harry and in my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, walking and cooking.

I began my journey in Early Years at 17 years old in 2010 when I chose to study Caring for Children Level 1.  During this, I found child development and education extremely interesting so went on to complete a Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies, completing this in 2015.  I have now returned to university one day a week to complete my Honours Degree in Education.  
Before joining Bristol, I previously worked as an Administrator within a School for Deaf Children –here, I particularly enjoyed learning Level 3 in British Sign Language. I have continued to learn more of this amazing language and have also been learning Makaton which we use as a communication aid at the setting.
I joined Bright Horizons in 2017 as a Nurse Nursery in our Pre-School room and then was promoted to Baby Room Leader and 3rd in Charge in 2018.  I find watching and supporting the development of each child so rewarding and like to work closely with the families of the children to ensure their experiences are personalised. I am really pleased I can continue my studies at University whilst continuing to work for Bright Horizons.

Danielle Reid

I have worked for Bright Horizons for 7 years. I started work here in 2013 whilst I was studying for my Childcare and Education Level 3 qualification. I initially joined the bank staff team and worked just one day a week while I was still studying. I then took on a full time position as a nursery nurse in the toddler room once I had completed my qualification.

I worked alongside the other staff which enabled me to become confident and skilful in my role.  When a senior position became available I decided to apply and was successful in my application.  This role enabled me to work closely with my Room Leader to gain the additional skills required to manage a small team.  Several years later there was on opening for the Room Leader position, I decided to apply and once again the skills I had gained lead me to a successful appointment of Toddler Room Leader.   I embrace Bright Horizon’s culture of continued professional development in their employees and am always seeking to improve practise, which in turn provides the children in our care with the best start to their education.

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
