A Creative and Inspiring Nursery

With a bright and happy environment, your child will feel excited to join us at our Barrow Day Nursery and Preschool, where days are filled with fun, learning, and friends for 3 months to 5-year-olds.

Fun-Packed Days to Aid Development

In our spacious under 2s room, we’ll follow your child’s own individual routines, ensuring an easy transition to nursery life. Young minds are nurtured with our enriched sensory area and private garden. Your little snoozer will also be able to follow the same sleep routine they have at home thanks to our cosy sleep area.

Your busy toddler will love discovering the toddler room in our Barrow nursery, where we encourage their development by allowing them to follow their individual interests and explore at their own pace.

Getting Ready for Those Next Steps

Designed by our Early Years specialists, your little one will get the best start to their schooling life through our enriching and wellbeing-focused Bright Beginnings Curriculum.

Building on the foundations of the government’s EYFS curriculum, it combines a wide range of activities to nurture and develop the skills your child needs to flourish and reach their full potential. This holistic yet personal approach supports each child’s development and progress – whether that’s moving rooms or preparing them for school.

Our nursery was rated Good at our last Ofsted inspection.

Enjoying the Fresh Air

If your little one loves the great outdoors then they’ll adore having free-flow access to our specially designed all-weather gardens, which also feature a growing area. To ensure your child has the very best experience, our garden has two areas for the different age groups, giving them access to the most age-appropriate resources.

All-Inclusive Convenience

We’re also an all-inclusive nursery, and essentials such as meals, nappies, wipes, and formula are included in your fees.

A Convenient Location

We’re located in the grounds of Furness General Hospital, making it an ideal nursery for hospital staff and local families. We have onsite parking, so pick-ups and drop-offs are a breeze.  and we’re also close to Barrow-in-Furness train station.

We’re so excited to meet you and your little one. To learn more about our Barrow nursery or to see us for yourself, please get in touch and we’ll arrange a personal tour.

Meet the Team

Leanne Jackson, Manager - Barrow Nursery

Leanne Jackson

I gained my NNEB diploma just over 18 years’ ago and following this my work history has only ever been within the childcare industry. I’ve been a nanny, worked within nurseries, schools, crèches, and was even fortunate to be able to travel for three years and experience different cultures.
I’ve always known I wanted to work with children, and as my career path has only ever been in this, I know it has been the perfect choice for me. I really do enjoy what I do. I strive for perfection, and firmly believe that high standards can only be achieved by the standards you set and lead your team to follow.
I’ve been with Bright Horizons for twelve years, and it is the longest period of time that I have ever wanted to stay with an employer! This company had me captured with its different style, professionalism, and approach to learning and mainly for their vision. I was first appointed as unit co-ordinator working within the nursery classes in 2003, and with a team of only eight back then, we began to make those visions come to life.
Now with a team that’s nearly tripled in size, here we all are proud to be part of an amazing and well established nursery.

Alison Peel, Deputy Manager - Barrow Nursery

Alison Peel

I left college with my NNEB certificate twenty four years ago and in this time I have worked as a Nanny, Childminder and Playgroup leader before eventually joining Bright Horizons as a Nursery Nurse working in our Barrow nursery for the past 12 years.

In this time I became a room supervisor and eventually deputy manager. I can honestly say I have enjoyed my time with my Bright Horizons family and have helped children grow from tiny babies and toddlers to preschoolers getting ready for their transition to school and take great pride in seeing confident happy children leaving my care knowing we have helped to achieve this.

As well as working alongside Leanne as part of the management team, I involve myself in the day to day life in the rooms and spend time with the children daily. I am always available for the staff offering guidance, helping with their training and development needs or just someone to turn to when needed.

I am also a busy working parent and I understand the trials and tribulations of bringing up children and want to work together with parents to provide the best quality care for your child I can.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
