I began my role as the manager at Chester in 1998. I had previously worked in numerous settings as a nursery nurse and a manager.
I am qualified ADCE and NNEB and use these skills to promote an inviting, stimulating and relaxed environment where families feel comfortable. My main focus is to give all children the opportunity to develop with our support and reach their full potential.
The welfare of our children is paramount and we focus constantly on the safeguarding of our children by offering and completing quality training for every staff member. Each child is nurtured and cared for as if they were our own; we have very strong relationships with all our families and focus on the links between home and nursery to give each child security and continuity. I split my time between the office and daily running of the nursery, recruitment, ordering, staffing and accounts. I also mentor staff with daily roles and take time with the staff team to ensure communication between the whole team. I ensure standards are met by completing staff one to ones and appraisals frequently giving my team the opportunity to take on new roles and experience different age groups to develop their own skills.
I joined Bright Horizons as the kidsunlimited company as a student in 1995, gaining full time employment at the nursery in 1996. I had previously trained in nurseries, schools and with Barnardos. I was qualified NVQ level 2 in Childcare and Education and then completed my Level 3 with kidsunlimited.
After working with all age groups and starting a room leader role in the baby room and toddler room I covered the deputy during maternity leave for 9 months. Once the deputy returned I moved to our Crewe nursery as a new opening and was the unit coordinator there for 3 years before moving to the Total Fitness Chester nursery. I then had my own 2 children and I returned to the Countess of Chester nursery as the deputy. I currently spend my time mainly in the office with the day to day running of the nursery, recruitment, ordering, staffing and accounts and mentoring staff with daily roles and world class welcome. I achieved my assessor qualification many years ago and spent time in London supporting kidsunlimited with training new staff.
My own 2 children have attended the nursery and I was very happy with their care at all times. We pride ourselves in spending time to correctly and patiently induct new staff and are always giving feedback in many forms and addressing issues as they arise giving both the children, staff and parents a happy and controlled environment that is efficient and with high standards with the whole families and staff being our focus.
