Ofsted Highlights Strong School Readiness at Eddington Nursery

Bright Horizons Eddington Day Nursery and Preschool has been praised by Ofsted for its approach to preparing children for school, with inspectors highlighting the nursery’s success in nurturing children’s confidence, independence, communication and social skills from an early age. 

The nursery, located in Cambridge, received a ‘Strong Standard’ across a number of key areas, with inspectors recognising the positive relationships children build with staff and the supportive environment in which they learn, play and grow.  

Inspectors found that children are encouraged to develop their social and independence skills from their earliest days at nursery, learning the foundations of friendships and making choices through their play. Children also enthusiastically engage in stories, singing and rhymes, supporting the development of their communication and language skills.  

The report found that children are “extremely well prepared for starting school”, with local schools commenting positively on children’s high levels of development when they enter Reception. Inspectors also praised the nursery’s carefully planned transition process, which helps children confidently move between rooms and prepares them for their next steps in learning and development, with parents involved throughout. 

Eddington Nursery was also commended for its focus on children’s wellbeing, with inspectors describing it as a “harmonious and nurturing environment” where staff model kindness and respect. 

Inclusion was seen to be another strength, with inspectors praising the nursery’s swift identification of children’s individual needs and the extra support provided to children who speak English as an additional language, as well as those with special educational needs and disabilities.  

Highlighted in the report was the nursery’s strong sense of community, with team leaders working closely with parents and guardians, and creating opportunities for families to stay connected. It was noted that parental feedback was “overwhelmingly positive”, with families particularly complimentary about the environment created by staff and the support offered to children.
