Chiswick Nursery Recognised for Environmental Commitment with Green Flag Award
Bright Horizons Chiswick Day Nursery and Preschool is celebrating its commitment to sustainability after being awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag Award in July, recognising its continued efforts to help young children understand the importance of caring for the environment and making positive choices.
The Eco-Schools programme encourages children and young people to explore environmental issues and take action to protect the planet. At Chiswick Nursery, sustainability has been woven into everyday learning, with children given opportunities to discover how simple actions such as reducing waste, reusing items and making sustainable choices can have a positive impact.
As part of their work, the children explored the Waste Hierarchy through a range of hands-on activities. At the nursery’s summer fair, they hosted a ‘Bring and Swap’ table, giving families the chance to pass on items they no longer needed and find something new to enjoy, helping to keep unwanted items out of landfill. The children also made their own paper using recycled materials and travelled by bus to donate pre-loved items to a local charity shop, helping them understand how reusing and recycling can benefit both people and the planet.
The nursery’s dedication to environmental education has continued to receive recognition, with Chiswick Day Nursery featured in this year’s Eco-Schools Impact Report. The report highlights encouraging examples of sustainability work taking place across schools and nurseries, showcasing the difference children and their communities are making.

The children have really enjoyed getting involved in activities that show them how they can make a difference, from finding new homes for unwanted items to creating something new from recycled materials.
“It’s wonderful to see how engaged they are with learning about the environment, and we hope these experiences help them develop positive habits that they can carry with them as they grow. We’re looking forward to continuing to find new ways to make sustainability a meaningful part of everyday life at the nursery.”
The nursery’s work forms part of Bright Horizons wider Future Earth programme, which brings sustainability into everyday life across its nurseries and offices.
