A Buzzing Achievement for Bright Horizons Didsbury as Nursery Wins Bee Heard Award

Bright Horizons Didsbury Day Nursery and Preschool is celebrating after receiving Manchester City Council’s Bee Heard in Early Years Award for its commitment to giving children a meaningful say in their nursery experience.

The award recognises settings that actively promote children’s voices and can demonstrate how their views and opinions are listened to, respected and valued as part of everyday nursery life.

Underpinned by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the award is built around four key foundations:

  • Equity
  • Education
  • Children’s voice
  • Safeguarding and welfare

Together, they recognise the importance of giving every child the same opportunities, supporting their right to learn and play, ensuring they have a voice and creating safe, nurturing environments where they can thrive.

The award was formally presented to the nursery on Monday 17 August by Manchester City Council’s Bee Heard Lead, who also visited the setting to see the team’s approach in practice and take a tour of the nursery.

For the team at Didsbury Nursery, the achievement reflects the welcoming environment they have created, where children are encouraged to share their ideas, make choices and express themselves with confidence.

Angelica, Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Didsbury Day Nursery and Preschool, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to receive the Bee Heard Award, and the credit really belongs to the whole team. It’s so important to us that children know their voices matter and that we take the time to listen to what they think, feel and want to explore.

“Seeing the children grow in confidence and become comfortable expressing themselves is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. We’re very fortunate to have such a wonderful support network and brilliant professionals across Bright Horizons who give us the tools and resources to keep developing our practice.”

The achievement is a reflection of the warm and nurturing environment at the heart of Didsbury Nursery. It also forms part of Bright Horizons’ wider Nurture Approach, which puts strong, caring relationships at the centre of children's early experiences.

By creating a space where children feel safe, secure and supported, the team helps them build confidence, develop a strong sense of belonging and helps them understand that their voice matters.
