Valeria, a Nursery Nurse at Jack Straws Day Nursery in Oxford shared with us her recent experience when she joined our latest training Programme aimed at developing confident Room Leaders. Here is her inspiring journey with Bright Horizons.
How has the Room Leader Programme supported your role in being promoted to a Third in Charge?
The Room Leader Programme was an amazing opportunity in my career and it came at the right time. I have learnt different techniques of how to empower my team, deal with complaints and looking closely of what being a Leader means. It boosted my confidence, wanting to try new things and it help me to believe in myself. I was very fortunate to meet an inspiring team of people who equipped me with the right skills and knowledge, helping me to make the most of the opportunities that come through Bright Horizons.
What is the most rewarding part of your role?
The most rewarding part is the fact that I am part of a bigger team with a shared vision and greater responsibilities. It is also the feedback that I receive from my team and parents and the positive impact I have in their everyday practice.
What is your career journey to date?
My career in Early Years started back in 2013, when I knew I loved working with children and when I realised that teaching is a gift. My experience varied from children’s centre, state nurseries and the private sector. Few years later and after completing my Early Childhood Studies (BAHons) course and was looking for a new challenge. A friend of mine advised me to look into Bright Horizons as they offer a range of opportunities, roles and training. I joined Bright Horizons as Senior Nursery Practitioner and shortly later I realised that Bright Horizons is the best place to reach my full potential. Due to personal reasons, I moved to Oxford, where I joined Bright Horizons as a Room Leader in the toddler room. It was a great challenge and there was so much to learn but the opportunity did not stop there. After 6 months into my role as a Room Leader, a Third in Charge position became available which I applied for and was successful. After that the horizons were bright…
