Men in Childcare

Nathan Christopher is currently a Talent Acquisition Consultant supports our recruitment team and our nurseries within the South West London area.

"I began my extensive journey into childcare in August 2010 working at a small nursery and completing my Level 2 NVQ in the children and young people’s workforce. Initially, childcare wasn’t a career I had ever thought about but when I came across the opportunity to work with children, it got me thinking about what a rewarding profession it could be.

The job itself is challenging however it is extremely fulfilling and has provided me with an in-depth understanding of child development and the Early Years industry. Working in the Early Years Sector has highlighted how crucial the first three years of a child’s life are. You can strive to achieve the best possible outcomes both cognitively and emotionally for the children within the nursery setting.

After eight years of working in childcare settings, I decided it was the right time for me to move on with my career. However, I was keen to continue working with a setting surrounded by the Early Years industry.

This has led me to Bright Horizons, where I've got an opportunity to continue to surround myself with the Early Years industry and nursery based practice.

The main thing that inspired me to recruitment was being given the opportunity to support nurseries and also children by selecting the right candidate to provide the children in the nurseries with the highest level of care possible.

Bright Horizons appealed to me due to being the UK’s best place to work for 13 consecutive years and it hasn’t failed to fulfil my expectations. My journey so far has been fantastic, despite only working as part of the recruitment team for three months in total; the whole Bright Horizons team has made me feel like a valued member.

If you are considering a career in childcare my advice is don’t just think about it, do it. Working in childcare is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding jobs you can find. Part of working with Bright Horizons is following Heart principles which stands for

“HEART stands for Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork.”

Following this principle throughout your own career journey in the nursery will not only make your workplace a brilliant place to work but it will also provide you with the perfect place to progress in your new career.
