My Bright Horizons Journey
Date: 28 Sep 2018
I really enjoy seeing children grow, develop and become confident little people but knowing that I helped that journey makes my job even more worthwhile. I’ve joined the Ely Day Nursery in 2003 as a Nursery Assistant. After a couple of years, I applied for the role of Room Leader in the 2-3’s room to which I was successful. My role was to lead and inspire my team to be the very best they could be. We would plan activities together and give the best care and attention to every child in our care.
I left the team after a few years, thinking the grass was greener on the other side but it really wasn’t. I couldn’t wait to come back and returned 6 months later as the Room Leader in the baby room. Each day was different working in the baby room; ensuring every child’s individual needs and routine were met. We felt a great sense of achievement, team work and job satisfaction. We would work together as a team, planning fun and messy activities for the babies to investigate, explore all of their senses. A year later, I was promoted to a Third in Charge and a year after to a Deputy Manager. My day now is slightly different in comparison with the days when I joined the nursery. I still support my team and encourage them to be the very best they can be. However, I also have the responsibility to ensure the nursery is running smoothly and the best level of care and education is being delivered to every child in our care.
The best bit of all is that I am still able to help in all of the rooms. I have really enjoyed my journey with Bright Horizons and being part of the team in Ely. I feel very excited my future opportunities and to see where my path will take me! My advice to anyone who is thinking about coming to work in a nursery would be: do it, you won’t regret it!
