Today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic!
The children’s song is so popular that the 10th July has officially been named Teddy Bear’s Picnic Day. Your little ones will love it and the day is a great excuse for your family to spend some quality time together in the outdoors.
Here are our top tips to help you plan a brilliant Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
1) Get Teddy Dressed Up and Ready for the Occasion
You’ll want to get Teddy dressed up and looking his best ready for his big day out! Start by giving their favourite toy a good wash – if your children are sometimes reluctant to let you wash their cuddly toys this could be a great excuse for you to get it off them!
Then think about choosing a special outfit for their bear. You can buy all sorts of teddy bear outfits if you want to treat your child to something new, though you could just as easily make an outfit for their teddy together. There are some simple patterns available here, all you need is some spare fabric, a needle and thread.
2) Prepare your Picnic
If you’re getting together with a group of friends and family for a Teddy Bear’s Picnic why not share the food preparation between you? We recommend everyone brings one dish to the picnic. Put someone in charge of sandwiches, someone make a salad, someone bring sweet treats etc. This makes light work of your picnic prep and means everyone can enjoy themselves.
Finger food is usually better for a picnic than anything that needs a knife and fork. If you want to keep your outdoor mealtime healthy think about skewering vegetables and fruit on kebab sticks rather than making salads. They’re easier to eat and you can even make them look like rockets or caterpillars to encourage your children to eat healthily.
3) Teddy Bear Themed Games
Once they’ve finished eating it’s a good idea to have some games lined up to keep your little ones entertained. Bear themed games will make a cute finishing touch to your Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
Why not take some face paints and paint paw prints on each other’s faces. Or, if you’re feeling artistic, you could go all out and paint your child’s whole face like a bear. You could also play hide and seek with the teddies. Get your children to close their eyes and count to 20 while you hide their teddy bear somewhere for them to find. And the classic ‘We’re all Going on a Bear Hunt’ is sure to be a big hit!
4) Teddy Bear Bed Time
We all know how difficult it can be to get children to back up and come home when they’re having a good time. But at a Teddy Bear’s Picnic you have a furry friend to help you! When it’s time to go home tell your children that their bear is getting sleepy and needs to get home in time for bed.
