Goldhawk Road Nursery Recognised with Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

Goldhawk Road Nursery Recognised with Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

Bright Horizons Goldhawk Road Day Nursery and Preschool is celebrating after being awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit, recognising its efforts to help young children learn about the environment and discover how they can make a difference.

The nursery has received the nationally recognised award through the Eco-Schools programme, an environmental education initiative that encourages young people to explore environmental issues and take action to care for the planet.

At Goldhawk Road Nursery, the children have been getting involved in a range of activities, including creating and caring for wildlife habitats, planting and growing, and learning about the importance of protecting nature and biodiversity.

The nursery’s commitment to sustainability has also been recognised in this year’s Eco-Schools Impact Report, which highlights inspiring examples of environmental action taking place in schools and early years settings across the country.

As part of their learning about marine conservation, the children explored the impact of plastic on our oceans before giving discarded materials a new lease of life by turning them into creative works of art. Through recycling, reusing and hands-on outdoor activities, the children have been able to explore sustainability through play while seeing how small changes can have a positive impact.

The Green Flag award is not the only reason for the nursery team to celebrate. Following an Ofsted inspection in March 2026, the nursery was graded ‘Strong standard’ for inclusion, recognising its approach to creating a welcoming setting where every child feels supported and included.

Catherine, Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Goldhawk Road Day Nursery and Preschool, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to have received our Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit. The children have really enjoyed getting involved and learning more about the environment, and it’s been lovely to see their curiosity and enthusiasm grow.

“For us, it’s about helping children understand that they can make a difference, even with small everyday actions. We’re incredibly proud of what the children and the team have achieved together and we’re looking forward to continuing our green journey.”

The achievement is part of Bright Horizons’ wider Future Earth programme, which brings sustainability into everyday life across its nurseries and offices. Future Earth aims to help children develop a lasting connection with nature and the world around them, while building positive habits from an early age.
