Liverpool nursery praised by Ofsted for inspiring children’s curiosity

Bright Horizons Broadgreen Day Nursery and Preschool in Liverpool has been praised by Ofsted for creating a calm, organised environment that encourages children’s curiosity, independence and positive attitudes towards learning.

The nursery received a ‘Strong Standard’ for behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines, with inspectors highlighting how the environment engages and inspires children to explore, develop their ideas and become increasingly independent.

Inspectors said that “staff have designed an environment that engages and inspires children's curiosity”, with a “calm and organised feel throughout the nursery”.

The report found that children display positive thinking towards their learning and remain focused on activities for long periods. They confidently use the resources around them to test out ideas and problem-solve. Children remain deeply involved in activities they have chosen for themselves, and the nursery’s well-organised routines help children develop confidence and independence.

Broadgreen Nursery’s calm environment also supports children to build positive relationships with one another. Inspectors discovered that children interact positively with staff and their peers, forming warm relationships and showing care and affection.

Staff were praised for consistently modelling high expectations for behaviour, with children understanding and following these expectations. Inspectors found that “their behaviour is exemplary”, with children demonstrating kindness, care and consideration towards others.

The report also recognised the nursery's work with parents and carers to support regular attendance, with families able to approach staff for advice and support to help their children.

Molly, Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Broadgreen Day Nursery and Preschool, said:

“We want Broadgreen to be a place where children feel secure enough to explore, ask questions and be their own person. It’s wonderful to see Ofsted recognise the environment our team works hard to create, where children have the freedom to be curious and explore through play.

“Seeing children become completely absorbed in activities, whether they’re making mud pies or leaf lasagne, is one of the best parts of my role. These everyday moments show just how much children are learning as they play.”
