Fiona has been recognised for going beyond her role, as well as being a nursery manager, she has been a champion for innovation and creativity in Aberdeen.

One important initiative she has spearheaded was the creation of the ‘Aberdeen Hub’ which provided essential childcare services for families up to eight years old. This was impactful for families facing the challenges of lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fiona organised home learning activities, virtual events, and a virtual graduation, ensuring that families who couldn't access the nursery still felt supported and connected.

The award also recognised her dedication and hard work in finding the best practices to support and enhance the learning and development of each child. She was part of the ‘Voices of Children’ project last year at Bright Horizons which engaged children in exploring diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through creating their own artwork enabling each child to express themselves. The children at Treehouse nursery showcased their own art at their exhibition at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen for individuals to see their important work.

Fiona, Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Treehouse Early Care and Education Centre in Aberdeen said: “I am so honoured to be nominated for a Nursery World award this year. It’s so important to me that I’m able to mentor and provide support for my colleagues to grow and progress in Early Years Education. I have been working in Early Years for 37 years now and I love what I do, especially being able to make a positive change for children and families in Aberdeen. My priority is making sure each child has the resources and support they need to grow and thrive.”

Michele, Director of Operations at Bright Horizons, said: “I am extremely proud and delighted to see Fiona has been recognised for the ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Nursery World award! Fiona has made such a positive impact at Bright Horizons, not just for the children, but for families and her colleagues. Treehouse is more than a nursery, it is a community, and this is driven by Fiona and her commitment to supporting children, families and her team, coupled with her determination to provide a nurturing environment for children to develop.”

Winners of the Nursery World awards are chosen by a distinguished panel of expert judges and will be revealed on September 21st at The Brewery in London.
