Bright Horizons nursery colleagues from across the northwest helped to raise £3,000 for the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.
Funds were collected for the charity at the company’s regional Awards of Excellence ceremony. Hampers raffled off on the evening and donations received from attendees and local companies contributed to the amount raised.
The awards, which were held recently at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, were to recognise excellent practice and efforts displayed by Bright Horizons teams and individuals across the region. Awards handed out on the night included the Rising Star Award, Regional Leader of the Year Award and a Foundation Award. The latter was won by nursery nurse Angelique at Trafford Nursery and Preschool for her fundraising efforts towards the Foundation in the last year, which included shaving her hair.
“We all know the value in the work done by the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and in particular the impact our Bright Spaces have had on vulnerable children and adults for many years,” said Regional Director Danielle Hamer. “We were delighted to raise this amount for our charity on the night.”
Set up in 2005, the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children’s sole purpose is to help children and families experiencing disadvantage and crisis, as a result of domestic violence, parental imprisonment, child abuse and ill health through the creation of Bright Spaces.
Bright Spaces are indoor and outdoor play environments in homeless shelters, domestic violence refuges, refugee centres, child protection interview suites in police stations, hospitals, hospices and visiting areas in prisons. They provide children with the opportunity to play, learn, build positive relationships and heal from trauma in a place of safety.
Tracy Wilkes-Green, the Foundation’s Manager said, “This fundraising efforts means we are able to reach hundreds more children and families to provide vital support to those who are disadvantaged in some way. We would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all of our amazing staff who played their part in helping us fundraise to set up our Bright Spaces.”
