Bright Horizons Timperley Day Nursery and Preschool has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Community Support award category as part of the Nursery World Awards 2021.
Winners of the 2021 awards will be announced at Nursery World’s awards ceremony taking place on Saturday 25th September at The Brewery in London.
The nursery has been shortlisted for the award because of its longstanding relationship with Allingham House, a nearby residential care home providing nursing and dementia care. Since 2016 the nursery children have regularly visited the residents of Allingham House, as recognised by carehome.co.uk, and this has been maintained in a safe and socially distanced manner throughout the pandemic.
Danielle Hamer, Regional Director, said: “It’s a wonderful honour to be shortlisted for this prestigious Nursery World award. It was incredibly important to our team that they found a way to still support the residents at Allingham House during the pandemic. The nursery team recognise the importance of intergenerational relationships and have created a warm, supportive experience for both the children and the residents. The residents at the care home have always looked forward to the children’s visits since they began in 2016 and during the last year have valued these interactions more than ever.”
Pedro Martin, Activity Co-ordinator at Allingham House, said: “Thanks to technology we were still able to hold videocalls during lockdowns between the residents and the children. As soon as the residents see the children in the screen the interaction between them happens straight away. A significant higher level of positive engagement has been observed when residents interact with the children, especially when they sing their favourite songs together.”
