Meet the Team

Karen Abram

As a parent I volunteered as a helper at my children’s playgroup. Before I knew it I had become a staff member and then Playgroup Supervisor. This was the beginning of my career in childcare.
When my children started school I joined a nursery as bank staff eventually securing a full time position. My first Nursery Manager’s job was over 16 years ago and I have been employed by Bright Horizons since 2011.
I hold a Level 4 NVQ in Childcare and Education and a Level 3 Management and Leadership qualification. I also have several other certificates including Paediatric First Aid and First Aid at work.

Sue Brown

My career in childcare started when my children were little and they attended playgroup.  I became a regular parent helper and a member of their committee.  I quickly decided that childcare was my passion and soon became the leader of the group.  I went to college to train as a childcare practitioner and joined the college nursery where I have worked for over 23 years updating my qualifications along the way.
Bright Horizons took over Quayside nursery in 2004 and I now work as the deputy manager working in the rooms two days per week and you will see me in the office on the other days.  I work very closely with new team members ensuring their transition into Bright Horizons is a happy occasion and supporting the nursery manager.
I completed my Childcare degree and also qualified as an Early Years Practitioner as well as being the Special Educational Needs Coordinator for the nursery, working with some wonderful children and families. Other qualifications include First Aid, Child Protection and Safety Awareness which are updated on a regular basis.

I feel very lucky that even though my own children are all grown up, I still have the opportunity to work in a happy environment supporting families and helping children to develop, and I continue to work alongside some wonderful role models and people who are as passionate as me.

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!
