Five Little Ducks

You Will Need:

The Activity:

  • Sing the song with your little one and use your fingers or other props to represent the ducks

Extending The Activity:

  • Extend the activity by creating your own ducks using craft materials - paper, pens, paper plates.
  • Use outdoor resources such as stones, leaves or twigs to represent the ducks.
  • You could float 5 leaves (ducks) on a puddle outdoors or find objects that float during bath time.
  • Ask your child to help make nests for the ducks by collecting natural resources outdoors, e.g. twigs, grass, leaves.
  • Extend your little ones thinking by asking them about the sounds a baby duckling or a duck might make.

How this supports your child's learning:

An experience and appreciation of rhythm and rhyme is essential for children’s success in mastering the fundamental skills required for speaking, reading and writing. Songs and rhymes are also a great way to introduce mathematical language and to support children’s emotional development.

    Top Tip:

Try to minimise distractions e.g. background noise, no television so children can fully engage with you and the song.
