Children at Bright Horizons Tingley Day Nursery and Preschool have been taking part in a variety of activities to celebrate Chinese New Year.
The children learned all about the Lantern Festival where homes and streets are decorated with red paper lanterns which symbolise good luck and happiness. They were able to design and create their own lanterns, developing scissor control.
The children also took part in a chopstick challenge. They explored how to hold and use chopsticks to pick things up, then practiced by transporting pom-poms into tubs and containers.
“Our Creative Cooks enjoyed making Moon Cakes this week too,” said Nursery Manager Katy Wormald. “Adults discussed with children about this Chinese tradition and then supported them to think about the processes involved in preparing and baking them. The best part was the tasting of course.”
