Half a Million Miles - The Target for Bright Horizons in 2021

Bright Horizons is encouraging its community to take part in a Walk to Nursery week from May 17th to 21st, as its bid to reach Half a Million Miles continues.

This latest activity by the early years care and education provider is in line with the annual national celebration of ‘Walk to School’, which takes place over the same timeframe.

Ros Marshall, Managing Director, at Bright Horizons UK said: “We know that healthy physical and mental wellbeing are essential for the learning and development of children of all ages. These values are at the heart of our curriculum, enabling children to learn to become confident, capable individuals with a positive disposition and strong self-esteem.

“Regular exercise plays a vital role in developing good physical and mental wellbeing, so we encourage all parents, family members, children and staff colleagues to take part in our Walk to Nursery Week throughout next week and beyond.”

Miles clocked up walking to nursery settings will help to support the Bright Horizons #HalfaMillionMiles challenge. The initiative, which launched in April, has so far raised more than £6,000 to support the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children.

The Foundation has more than 80 Bright Spaces throughout the UK, which provide warm, safe, enriching play environments for vulnerable children affected by abuse, domestic violence, parental imprisonment, and ill-health.

A recent report by Sport England on ‘Children’s Experience of Physical Activity in Lockdown’ show that parents are valuing the time they are spending on activity with their children, believing that sports and fitness are bringing families together: 53% of parents were undertaking more physical activity with their children than they did prior to lockdown and 61% felt that playing sport and keeping fit was helping to maintain their family’s physical and mental wellbeing.
