Snow Preparation Information

Winter is a time for excitement and celebration, with snow often making the season extra special for the children.

Although we’re looking forward to lots of fun, we do have a procedure in place should there be an excessive amount of snow or bad weather. This ensures the safety and wellbeing of children and staff, and keeps disruption to a minimum for you.

If we do have bad weather, please make sure you check https://www.brighthorizons.co.uk/snow, which will contain one of the following statuses, letting you know the situation before you travel to nursery:

• Closed
• Closing Early
• Limited Availability
• Limited Availability & Opening Later
• Limited Availability & Closing Early
• Opening Late

What do these statuses mean? 

Closed: The nursery is closed and will not be opening at any time on this day. Please check the website the next morning for the latest update.

Closing Early: If bad weather occurs during the day and appears to put at risk the prospect of children and staff getting home safely, we will close the nursery early.

Limited Availability: If some staff cannot get to the nursery at all, we will try to bring in staff from other Bright Horizon nurseries. If we are still short staffed, we will operate a limited availability system, where we will accept children on a first come, first served basis. Once we have reached our staff:child ratios, we will be unable to accept any more children into the nursery. Parents should contact the nursery on the day for specific details.

Limited Availability & Opening Later: If staff are struggling to arrive, the nursery may have to open later in the morning in order for us to maintain our staff:child ratios. Parents should contact the nursery on the day for specific details.

Limited Availability & Closing Early: If some staff cannot get to the nursery at all, we will operate a limited availability system and if the bad weather worsens during the day and appears to put at risk the prospect of children and staff getting home safely, we will close the nursery early.

Opening Late: If staff are struggling to arrive, the nursery may have to open later in the morning.

Should your nursery experience any other issues arising from adverse weather conditions, this will be communicated in the same way.
