Children at Bright Horizons Bristol Day Nursery and Preschool have been showing an interest in where their food comes from and how it is produced.
Practitioners provided children with oranges, containers and juicers to explore how we can peel, segment and juice fruit. The children used measuring containers and funnels to decant the juice then find out how much they were making from each orange. They also counted segments from oranges and used their fine motor skills to peel the fruits themselves.
“We tasted the juice we had made and also made them into ice lollies as a part of Creative Cooks,” said Deputy Nursery Manager Lucy Cragg. “There was further discussion on how other fruits are made into juice through different processes.”
