Quayside Nursery and Preschool
Quayside Nursery and Preschool is a modern, purpose-built one storey building, located in the grounds of the old college campus in Suffolk. We have on- site parking and convenient drop off areas for parents. Included in fees are branded nappies and wipes.
With four spacious rooms, each catering to specific age groups, the nursery is always bustling with children learning and at play. Our cosy baby room cares for children from 3 months upwards, with a separate sleep room and milk kitchen. Younger children in the toddler rooms enjoy a variety of activities designed to encourage emerging skills, interacting with our excellent range of resources, growing and developing each day through activities like role play, messy play and sand and water.
“Staff at Quayside are incredibly responsive to my family. If there should be a problem they are quick to act to resolve it. The dedication of staff is clear to see. My children love to go and are offered a wide range of activities to participate in but equally they recognise the value in sitting quietly with stories etc. They also spend a good balance of time outdoors.” - Parent at Quayside and Preschool
Pre-school children at Quayside begin preparation for the move to ‘big school’ by being introduced to academic subjects like reading, writing, maths, science and art and PE. Our aim is for all Quayside children to leave for school bursting with confidence, ready to embark on the next stage of their education. School leavers have a Graduation Day where they receive teddies, certificates and wear gowns for special photos - parents are invited, and we all share a Graduation Tea!
Our recently refurbished outdoor areas are packed with play equipment and resources for learning; including musical stations, bird houses, science tables, planting and areas, boats, dens and play houses. The beautiful woodland garden is very popular with children as are the nursery pets; fish, African Land Snails and our guinea pigs, Strawberry and Crunchy Nut! The Woodland area on site allows us to offer Forest School where children can take part in activities such as den building, whittling and playing games. Our staff which lead the Forest School session all hold, or are working towards, a level 3 Forest School Leader Qualification.
The emphasis of a Forest School is that of learning outside, being able to explore at the child’s own pace and being able to manage risks (which is a life skill we all need) all independently. Your child will be learning about seasons in a seasonal environment, where the floor changes every day.
“My eldest son also attended Quayside and was very happy there too. I feel the staff genuinely care for the children and encourage their development and I would like to thank them for this.” - Parent at Quayside
Quayside children also enjoy getting out and about, with regular outings to local parks, museums, and the nearby docks, and we play an active part in local community life, with lots of fundraising. A recent initiative saw our families donate items which were used to create Christmas Boxes for children in third world countries and care packages for The Women’s Refuge.
Our active Parent Partnership group meets every term and also hosts fantastic family events; including Father’s, Mother’s and Grandparent’s Day breakfasts/lunches, Teddy Bears Picnics, Summer Fetes and Parent Conferences – perfect opportunities for the whole family to have fun and get involved in nursery life!
Quayside Nursery and Preschool also has a Sure Start Children’s Centre attached to it, offering advice on topics such as housing, financial support and health visitor appointments.
“The nursery environment is welcoming to both children and their families. The nursery is safe and secure and offers children good quality resources and equipment that are appropriate for the children attending. Inviting, designated play areas in most playrooms ensure all children are able to easily access resources and toys available. Furniture used is purposefully designed for children and enables all children to participate in the activities provided with ease. Children's artwork and posters are displayed at children's height, creating a real sense of belonging, and excellent information is displayed throughout the nursery for parents.” - Ofsted March 2013
