I’m sure we’ll each remember different aspects of 2015 – with high points both personal and professional – and the same will apply to 2016 in its turn. It’s been a very memorable year and on behalf of Bright Horizons, I’m pleased to share some of our key highlights with you.
This year has seen more working families in the UK than ever before, and we’ve been delighted to welcome many new families and clients who have chosen us to support their dependant care needs. This year we celebrated the official opening of two new workplace nurseries and became the “care emergency” solution for the families of 17 new back-up care clients.
In fact we saved almost 15,000 working days for our client organisations through our Care Advantage programme so far this year and we look forward to providing this peace of mind for even more families and businesses. As demographic and social changes make wider caring responsibilities increasingly relevant, we’re continuing to develop our work-life solutions, including our CareDirect programme which launched earlier this year.
Enabling families and employers to be at their very best and able to access high-quality, dependable and sustainable care for their loved ones is a founding part of our mission. We continue to be involved in activities which champion the needs of families and employers and were delighted to once again sponsor Working Families’ Modern Families Index research report and the Employers’ Guide to Childcare, providing valuable insight into the challenges of modern family life. In addition to developing childcare and dependant care services, we’re proud to partner with many like-minded organisations such as the Family and Parenting Institute and Employers for Carers, helping to shape the care and early education landscape by providing first-hand insight into the Early Years Foundation Stages, integrating work and family life, and the potential impacts of the planned introduction of 30-hours free childcare. We’re currently working on the 2016 Modern Families Index report with Working Families and we look forward to sharing the research with you in the New Year.
Our registered charity, The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children, celebrated its 10th anniversary in UK and Ireland this year. We marked that milestone with an Aberdeen to Brighton Cycle Challenge (raising over £50,000 for the Foundation) and also opening our 41st Bright Space! The Foundation supports over 8,000 children in the UK through our Bright Space programme and our Global Foundation has almost 300 Bright Spaces serving 100,000 children and families. None of this would have been possible without the support from our families and clients and it’s amazing to see the difference we can make collectively: I would like to thank everyone for their time and sponsorship in helping children and families during their most difficult and challenging times. We believe, as do our clients, in creating the best possible working environments for our people and we’ve been fortunate that throughout 2015, we have celebrated success and received great external recognition. We are incredibly proud to have received our ‘Master Status’ this year from the Great Place to Work Institute, having been recognised as a Best Workplace for the last ten consecutive years – we’re the only company in the childcare sector to achieve this. In addition we also received our fourth RoSPA Gold Award for our continued commitment to Keeping Everyone Safe. We know that the organisations we partner with share the same passion and we’re delighted to see so many receive recognition for their ongoing commitment to promoting family-friendly practices and providing innovative solutions and work-life resources to support their employees, receiving this year’s Employee Benefits Awards and Top Employers for Working Families Special Awards.
As employers we have shared aspirations, challenges and successes, and it is always great to connect and discuss our solutions. Our regular Solutions@Work blog and newsletter have featured many events and stories, including a royal visit from Her Majesty! In addition to our Foundation’s 10th birthday, 2015 also marked the 15th year of Bright Horizons in Europe. Many of our clients have been with us for all or a considerable part of this period and we treasure that longevity. We are committed to continuing to meet and exceed expectations we were proud to hear through our client survey this year that 100% of our clients are satisfied with the service they receive from us.
