A place to grow

Previously Zoom Nursery Maythorne Cottages, Bright Horizons Maythorne Cottages joined the Bright Horizons family in 2018. We've built upon our great reputation locally to deliver some of the best childcare in the area, having looked after hundreds of children since we opened in 2003.

We provide exceptional childcare for toddlers and children aged 18 months to 5 years. Most of our children will have joined us from our baby care nursery at Bright Horizons Beacon Road. All age groups benefit from our extensive Growing Enhancements programmes to provide learning and development in fields such as Reading, Writing, Maths, Sports, Science, IT and Art. Our Preschool provision is second to none in the area and we work closely with local schools to ensure our children get the best start through our school readiness initiatives.

All of our rooms are extremely well-equipped, featuring the latest in early years and educational equipment. We also have outdoor spaces which are appropriate for all ages.

Our nursery is extremely secure and benefits from security systems upon entry, providing a safe environment for your child.

We're well-placed for local commuter routes by train and bus and provide some of the most flexible start and finish times in the area. This gives our parents the peace of mind that we can accommodate their working patterns.

The building itself has been designed to inspire young minds and facilitate pre-school learning. It's a bright, airy and engaging space which truly provides the best in early years care. We pride ourselves on our settling in sessions and can put together a plan for you and your family to ensure your child is fully settled in advance of them starting with us.

Our staff team are qualified to a variety of levels, some having been with the nursery for a number of years and some who are starting out in their childcare careers. We have found that this mix of ages and genders within the team gives a great benefit to our children's confidence and social development.

Please get in touch with us today to come and see the nursery for yourself, we would love to welcome you with some stay and play sessions so you can truly experience Bright Horizons Maythorne Cottages with your child.

Meet the Team

Melissa Taylor Nursery Manager

Melissa Taylor

I have worked in childcare for 11 years and have grown and developed from a nursery practitioner to Nursery Manager. As a mother myself to two boys who keep me on my feet.

I have gained a lot of experience throughout my childcare journey working at various different childcare settings. It's rewarding to see how early years education and experiences offered impact on a child's brain development for the future.

I intend to create a nursery where children are given opportunities of learning they don't have at home and create secure attachments with their key workers and develop a real sense of community at my nursery and help children learn and grow in confidence through the opportunities we provide for them.

I have been working in childcare for over 10 years, I come from a big family so have always been around children and still enjoy watching them grow and find it rewarding helping give children the best opportunities of learning possible. I would say I am a creative outgoing person with a great sense of humour and have a friendly approach to life.

Candy Floss

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons

The Bright Horizons passion and enthusiasm for providing high-quality care isn’t just common knowledge within our own business – we’ve also gained some impressive accolades from external sources for excellence as both a childcare provider, and as an employer. We are the only childcare company to have been listed for the last 11 years as one of the country’s top 50 “Great Places to Work” by the Great Place to Work Institute.
