A place to grow

Bright Horizons' St Mary's Day Nursery and Preschool is located in Hulme and is based in a converted, Grade-II listed building that has been purposely refurbished to suit the highest childcare regulations and early learning development.

Our diverse, multicultural nursery is rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted and cares for families with children from all cultural identities. Additional languages spoken at our nursery include Polish, Arabic and Spanish.

Our team of enthusiastic childcare professionals provide a vibrant environment for children to learn and discover the world around them. Parents are welcome to ask any questions regarding the facility and staff, who look to treat each parent and child as an individual and make any necessary arrangements within the service to suit.

Safety and security are both a high priority, as is the health and nutrition of children and the maintaining of a pleasant and friendly environment. Bright Horizons received a Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) award in April 2018 for the seventh year running. The nutritionally balanced menu is produced by our talented on-site chef.

Children are well prepared for the transition to school with the unique Bright Horizons Ready for School Programme.

We run stretch & grow physical activities and we have a nature garden that is attended by the children throughout the year. There is also a dedicated art studio to support the development of children’s artistic creativity.

The nursery fees are all inclusive meaning they include all meals and snacks, nappies, nappy cream, bottles and baby formula.

Meet the Team

Name of person

Stephanie Ruddock

I have worked for the company for 9 years starting as a nursery nurse before eventually becoming a nursery manager, a role which I have had for 3 years. I have an NVQ level 4 in Children’s care, learning and development and I am currently working towards a degree in Early Years Practice which is proving to be a really valuable experience.

Being a nursery manager is a very rewarding job and I enjoy getting to know the families and watching the children grow as they move through the nursery. Each day brings something different and fulfilling.

Name of person

Laura Woods

I have worked for Bright Horizons for a year but have over 20 years childcare experience. I started as a room leader later progressing to my role of nursery deputy manager. I currently hold a level 4 qualification in Children’s care learning and development and I am also studying for my Early Years Practice degree at University. This is proving to be an interesting and useful experience.

I continue to develop professionally within Bright Horizons and I look forward to each and every day with the children and their families as well as working with our fantastic staff team. As a deputy Manager at St Mary’s I feel happy and fulfilled.

Name of person

Candy Floss

Hi, my name is Candy Floss, I joined Bright Horizons in March 2010 as the ‘Super Safety Hero’ to help nursery children stay safe and manage risks. My role as a Health and Safety Super Hero is unique to Bright Horizons and I’m in every nursery, 365 days a year.

Back in 2010, I saw a job advert for a Zebra Super Safety Hero – I was very excited, applied and was invited for an interview with several other zebras. We were interviewed by all the children who then voted on which of us would be their Super Safety Hero. It was hoof biting but I was thrilled when they told me I was the most voted for by the children who all loved me because of my cape and bag. My bag is very special, if something fits inside, it’s a choking hazard. You might be wondering how I got my name. The children in our nurseries chose five names and voted for their favourite. I love it as it’s unique, I mean have you ever heard of a zebra called Candy Floss? Exactly!

Why Bright Horizons
