Celebrating Mother Earth Day
Date: 18 Apr 2018
International Mother Earth Day, which falls annually on the 22nd of April, is celebrated to remind us that the Earth and its ecosystems provide us with life and sustenance. The important awareness event also looks at how humankind can look towards the future of the planet for our children.
Teaching children to care about the planet at a young age is so important and with this in mind, we’ve put together a list of activity and craft ideas for you to try out with your child this Mother Earth Day:
- Create a sensory garden with your child – gardening helps children to learn about where our food comes from and the cycle of life. A sensory garden enables children to explore the properties of plants, their look, feel, texture, smell and taste.
- Paper Planet – Paint a paper plate with glue and then place pieces of blue and green tissue paper onto the plate to create the Earth.
- Play dough Earth – Use blue and green play dough to make the planet Earth. You could provide other colours to create planets as well!
- Earth Cookies – After baking a batch of cookies, use blue and green coloured icing to decorate the cookies to look like Earth.
