Diwali, also known as the festival of lights, is the biggest festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists around the world. While the story behind Diwali varies from region to region the festival is celebrated to remember that light triumphs over dark and good triumphs over evil.

Diwali is an exciting and colourful holiday. It creates the opportunity for so many art and craft activities with children.

The children and staff at Bright Horizons Mount Vernon Nursery enjoyed celebrating Diwali. Many of the children took part in “wearing something sparkly” and some wore traditional clothes from home.

The children made colourful biscuits and cakes to take home. Pre-school children made some lovely glittery candle holders as Diwali presents for their families.

Their yoga class was inspired by colour today with the children dancing to special music and interpreting dance with colourful scarves.
