Today is World Book Day and our nurseries across the UK and Ireland will be celebrating a wide selection of authors, illustrators, books and reading. Your child may be invited to share their favourite book, take part in a range of exciting storytelling activities or come in dressed up as their favourite book character. You might even see the staff dressed up as their favourite characters too!

World Book Day

It’s never too early to start reading to your child. Children adore sharing stories and rhymes, being read to and enjoying special time with their parent or carer and there is evidence to show that reading together for ten minutes a day with your child can make a huge difference to their learning and development, including helping them to expand their vocabulary, ignite their imagination and fall in love with reading. So why not join us in celebrating World Book Day 2017 by doing ‘Something Booky Today’?

World Book Day

The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. Your child will be given an extra special £1 World Book Day Book Token. The Book Token is a gift from booksellers and book publishers and can be exchanged for one of TEN exclusive World Book Day £1 books OR used to get £1off any full-price book which costs £2.99 or more.

The World Book Day Token is valid until Sunday 26th March 2017 and can be redeemed at many book retailers including Waterstones, WHSmith, Tesco and Asda as well as most independent bookshops! To find your nearest bookshop: BOOKSELLERS.ORG.UK/BOOKSHOPSEARCH

Parents at Bright Horizons nurseries are encouraged and supported with various tips & hints on how to support their children love for reading. For example our Growing Readers Review newsletters include recommend list of our Books of Excellence which have been chosen by our children, staff and families, as well as inspiring book recommendations for children 0 – 11 years, in conjunction with our book supplier Letterbox Library.
